Rice School-Parent Compact

Dear Parent/Guardian:

We value your role in helping your child master high academic standards. The following information is an outline of some ways you and the Rice staff can share the responsibility for supporting your child’s learning.

School Responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State's student academic achievement standards.
  • Provide universal screening for all students, instruction using the Harcourt reading program, and targeted intervention to students who require additional assistance.
  • Provide parents with frequent reports on their children's progress. The school will provide quarterly report cards and progress reports.
  • Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Staff will be available to speak to parents before or after school by calling the school or emailing the teachers. Staff members are available during Back-to-School Night and during parent conferences.

Parent Responsibilities:

  • Send your child to school each day unless he/she is sick.
  • Encourage your child to show positive school behavior.
  • Review your child's homework and make sure homework is completed.
  • Read to and with your child.
  • Promote a healthy lifestyle for your child, such as getting enough sleep each night, eating healthy foods, and being physically active.
  • Attend parent conferences and Back-to-School Night.
  • Communicate with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district either received by your child (which may require checking the child's backpack) or by mail and respond as appropriate.
  • Volunteer in your child's school and classroom if your schedule permits.
